Judicial review could still quash West Nipissing council decision to switch to OPP despite OCPC decision

The Ontario Civilian Police Commission has ruled the West Nipissing Police Service can be abolished.

However it doesn’t mean switching to the OPP is a done deal.

Barry Bertrand, the chair of the West Nipissing Police Services Board, says a judicial review examining town council’s vote in favour of the OPP is still scheduled this fall.

Bertrand says during the review the judge can still rule to reverse council’s decision about switching to the OPP.

He says if that happens, then council would have to re-apply to the OCPC in order for the OPP to assume municipal policing.

The judicial review is scheduled in Sudbury for the week of October 9th.
