Carol Hughes, a Northern Ontario MP just finished asking a question during an NDP caucus meeting when the shooting on Parliament Hill began yesterday morning. Hughes says some colleagues hid under tables and adds the experience was very emotional. She says it’s very worrisome that a person got into Parliament with a weapon and expects there will be an investigation into how this happened. But she adds in the end the House of Commons still needs to be accessible to the public. Hughes says it’s fortunate that Parliament Hill has the security it does because she firmly believes the outcome could have been a lot worse.
