McDonald finds AMO meeting with mines minister very productive

The Mayor of North Bay found his meeting with the Minister of Northern Development and Mines over what role the ONTC can play with the Ring of Fire very productive.

Al McDonald says the meeting with Greg Rickford went very well.

McDonald met with the minister in Ottawa at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.

The North Bay Mayor was with other mayors discussing the Ring of Fire with Rickford.

“The ONTC has the ability to help open up the Ring of Fire, “McDonald told Moose News.

“Rail is the most efficient way to move things from an economic and environmental standpoint.”

McDonald says once the chromite project opens, it means more jobs at the ONTC including those in the refurbishment shop.

“This project would make the ONTC more stable and sustainable,” said the Mayor.

McDonald added that if Noront Resources picks Timmins as the site to host its smelter instead of Sault Ste. Marie, the ONTC “would play an incredible role on the rail side of things”.

Although the smelter decision had nothing to do with AMO, McDonald says when the Ring of Fire topic came up, he said it was very obvious that Rickford and the Progressive Conservative government want to see it happen.
