Clampdown coming on illegal trailer parks in West Nipissing

The days of illegal trailers popping up in West Nipissing could be nearing an end.

Council is asking staff for options to deal with this issue as councillors field complaints from residents.

Among the concerns is how the people in unorganized trailers can drive down housing prices.

Another irritant is this group doesn’t contribute to the local economy and the visitors go as far as to bring all their own food.

Another issue for council is how the temporary “residents” take water from the municipal system without contributing to the local economy.

Council wants to make it clear it’s not going after the legitimate trailer park commercial enterprises.

It’s the illegal ones that suddenly pop up and the residents stick around for long periods of time that it’s targeted.

Council also says it has no beef with trailer park people who come to the municipality for a weekend family reunion.
