The new owners of the Champlain Motel property in Sturgeon Falls have struck out on getting a discount when using the municipal landfill site.
The three owners sent a letter to council asking for a break on the tipping fee as they dump the rubble from the former motel.
The owners told council they would appreciate the discount after tearing down the eyesore people saw regularly as they passed through Sturgeon Falls.
However while council likes that the motel has been demolished, it won’t discount the tipping fee for fear of creating a precedence.
Council is concerned that if it gives the new owners a deal, then that opens the doors for others to make the same request.
