Slight rise in forest fire count

The northeast is now looking at 45 forest fires as a result of five new fires Tuesday afternoon.

The latest fires were reported in the Sudbury, North Bay, Parry Sound and Chapleau clusters.

All are small in nature ranging in size from 0.1 to 1.5 hectares.

The North Bay fire, which is called North Bay 122, is 0.8 hectares large and near the Temagami River Provincial Park.

Of the 45 current fires, nine are out of control.

Meanwhile firefighters continue to hold the area’s two massive fires; North Bay 72 at more than 27,000 hectares and Parry Sound 33 which is more than 11,000 hectares large.

Although the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has lifted part of its Restricted Fire Zone designation, the restriction remains in place in the Nipissing District as well as points west.
