Number of forest fires reduced in Northeastern Ontario

There’s a bit more progress on the fight to control and extinguish forest fires in Northeastern Ontario.

The number of fires is down one more to 40 and one more fire has been brought under control leaving five still out of control.

The other good news is that two major fires, North Bay 72 and Parry Sound 33, are being held and have not gotten any bigger.

North Bay 72 remains at just more than 27,000 hectares while Parry Sound 33 is a little more than 11,000 hectares large.

With hundreds of firefighters getting the upper hand on many of the fires, the restricted fire zone the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry imposed a while back has been partially lifted, however North Bay, West Nipissing and surrounding municipalities remain under the restriction.

Ontario continues to get support from firefighters from most Canadian provinces as well as from Wisconsin and Mexico.
