Prized kayak recovered

A social media post that kept a man’s hopes afloat while searching for his missing boat has paid off.

Last month, Ken Baldwin and family began an internet campaign to spread the word about the theft of his prized possession, a handcrafted 17-foot kayak. Ken’s son Adam is happily reporting that after the post about the kayak went viral, it has been returned to Ken intact.

Adam, who lives in North Bay, says the boat was found about 10 minutes from his father’s Parry Sound home by a person who collected the $1,000 reward the Baldwins offered but wishes to remain anonymous. Adam says his father had no issues with this as it was a “no questions asked,” plea he made for the kayak’s return. Adam did share that the man who returned it said he found it in the bush, wrapped in a black tarp near a beaver pond.

About his father, Adam says he is “extremely happy, overwhelmed with joy, I noticed how much joy it brought back to his voice, it was returned at a very important time in our lives.”

The Baldwins would like to thank the people “from across the world for all the amazing efforts and interest in helping us spread this article.” Adam says he believes the social media interest led to “the return of my Dad’s prized possession…minus the paddle, but that will give him something to do, building a new one, while happily retired with his kayak back.”
