Chair of Nipissing DSSAB welcomes funding increase

The chair of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board welcomes news that the province is giving the agency a 1.5 percent inflationary increase.

Mark King says it’s too soon know exactly when the extra funding will arrive.

However he believes the money isn’t too far off considering the new P.C. government will be announcing its first budget in the near future.

King says the DSSABs in the north received the extra funding and it’s money the agency will be able to put to good use.

Although the extra money is being well received locally, King admits the Nipissing DSSAB had to consider the possibility that there would be no increase at all.

“We’ve been doing our due diligence over a fair length of time,” King said.

“We had to make sure we had options in the system that would allow us to do things with reduced funding.”

As for whether it’s enough, King said yes for the short term.

“It’s not something I’m concerned about (right now),” he said.

“Whether or not we have to go back to the province for more money, at this point I don’t know.  I don’t expect to do that but we’ll see how things shake out in the next six to eight months.”
