MoneySense ranks West Nipissing number one nationally as best place to live with low property taxes

Two municipalities in Nipissing District are among the Top 100 best cities and towns to live in with low property taxes.

Ranked first is West Nipissing with an average annual tax bill of $1,494.

West Nipissing’s tax rate comes in at 1.88 percent.

North Bay captured seventh place with a tax rate of 2.11 percent and annual property tax bill of $1,947.

The digital publication MoneySense released the findings after ranking the Top 100 communities.

The top eight places in the MoneySense list are held by communities in Northeastern Ontario.

In second spot is Elliot Lake with a tax rate of 2.24 percent and annual property tax bill of $1,390 and Timiskaming Shores is eighth with a property tax bill of $1,964 based on a 2.09 percent tax rate.

Two other cities in the northeast are among the top 20 and they are Timmins (19) and Greater Sudbury (20).

Across the north, three other communities make the Top 100 list; Kenora (48), Sault Ste. Marie ((53) and Thunder Bay (88).
