Vanthof asks when will Tories restore Northlander

The new P.C. government got an earful from John Vanthof, the NDP MPP from Timiskaming Cochrane over the Northlander.

Vanthof said during the election campaign the Tories promised to restore rail passenger service in the north.

He says since winning office, the Tories have been silent on the issue.

During an exchange in Question Period, Vanthof asked if Premier Doug Ford has now forgotten about his promise.

However it wasn’t Ford who took the question.

Greg Rickford, the Minister of Northern Development, said the government wants Northern Ontarians to be able to move across the north in rail.

However Rickford gave no timetable on when this would happen.
