The number of forest fires in Northeastern Ontario dropped to 60 on Friday compared to 66 on Thursday night.
The number of fires that are out of control is also down to 22 from Thursday’s high of 26.
Friday’s humidity has also allowed the firefighters to make good progressing attacking the fires by keeping fire activity down.
However expected rain may also bring lightning and the fear at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is the strikes could ignite more fires.
On the positive side, Temagami has lifted an evacuation order that forced some area residents from their homes on Sunday.
However an evacuation alert remains in place meaning the homeowners would have to leave again if fire activity picks up.
The MNRF says three area fires in the River Valley, Lake Temagami and Lade Evelyn clusters remain priorities.
Also roadblocks remain up at several camp access roads that are close to the fires north of River valley.
In the immediate area, the affected routes are Baie-Jeanne, South Pardo, St. Joseph’s, Gibbons and McLaren’s roads.
No hiking, ATV’ing or camping is allowed in these restricted areas.
