Don’t expect to do any hiking, camping or All-Terrain Vehicle riding in the Temagami region as well as camp access roads north of River Valley in West Nipissing.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has roadblocks in place to prevent people from getting too close to forest fires.
The roadblocks also means camp and cottage owners are prohibited from getting to their properties.
People travelling on the restricted roads will have to show a permit.
The MNRF imposed the travel restriction to protect the public.
The River Valley area roads affected by the restriction are Gibbons, South Pardo, St. Joseph’s and Baie-Jeanne.
McLaren’s Road which is further east of the other four affected roads also faces restricted travel.
Meanwhile Alberta and Saskatchewan have sent water bombers to Ontario to fight the forest fires from the air.
That’s in addition to 85 firefighters from British Columbia and Alberta who are helping about 400 Ontario firefighters with the ground attack.
As of Wednesday afternoon the number of forest fires in the northeast stood at 66.
That includes 15 new fires that began on Tuesday as a result of thunderstorms hitting Northeastern Ontario in various areas in the afternoon.
However fire crews had already extinguished seven of these new fires.
Four of the fires are in the North Bay cluster and range in size from point one hectare to six hectares.
The MNRF is expecting to find more fires over the next few days as a result of the lightning strikes.
Of the 66 fires, nearly a third are out of control and another 39 are being held.
Also the light northerly wind is again forcing smoke from the fires to drift toward cottage country to the south.
