Woman charged after child locked in car in sweltering heat

A woman in Haileybury is charged with failing to provide the necessities of life after keeping a child locked in a vehicle in extreme heat.

The incident took place around 4:30pm Wednesday.

The Temiskaming OPP got a call about a child being inside a vehicle for about 20 minutes.

It didn’t take long for police to arrive and once on the scene they smashed the window and rescued the child.

The child was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The woman who left the child locked in the vehicle is 20-years-old.

The incident took place at a time when many communities across Northeastern Ontario have been under a heat warning.
