Sturgeon Falls Rod and Gun Club hopes to add more days to shooting range

An agreement between the Municipality of West Nipissing and the Sturgeon Falls Rod and Gun Club may be revised.

The club is asking that one day of shooting be allowed on the range during the weekend.

Currently no weekend range shooting is allowed.

Members can take to the range weekdays from 9:00am to 15 minutes before sunset.

The members want council to consider a second request which is to allow shooting at the range during August.

Range shooting during the summer was barred from the Memorandum of Understanding because of concerns that the gun blasts would interfere with cottage owners enjoying their seasonal homes.

However council has been told by the club that the nearest cottage owner is three kilometres from the shooting range.

The members prefer being allowed access to the range during August because some hunt in the fall and use the waning days of summer to hone up on their shooting skills.

Council will consider the request at the July 10th meeting.
