The Top 50 Pike Fishing Tournament is ready to go in Sturgeon Falls this Saturday.
The event is a partnership between the Sturgeon River House Museum and Sturgeon Falls Curling Club.
Curling club spokesman Rene Rochon, who is also part of the organizing committee, says thousands of dollars are up for grabs this year.
Rochon says last year 100 boats were registered and that allowed for the dispersal of $13,000 to the top five finishers.
In total, $22,000 was handed out to all winning anglers in 2017.
Rochon says if this year’s event has 100 boats, then the top prize will be $6,000.
It drops to $3,500 for second place, $2,000 for third sport, while fourth place is awarded $1,000 and the fifth place winner receives $500.
The money the event generates is used to make improvements to the curling club.
Rochon says this year’s the curling club’s roof is getting repaired and after that the kitchen sees work.
