West Nipissing sign by-law could see changes

The way signs are posted on hydro poles promoting things like yard sales in West Nipissing could be in store for a change.

Staff have been instructed by council to come up with recommendations that amend the sign by-law involving public advertising.

The issue is one Mayor Joanne Savage raised last August.

What the Mayor finds troublesome is that people post a sign on a pole and don’t remove it after the event.

She says then the advertisement becomes the problem of nearby homeowners who have the paper on their lawn when a rain or wind storm rips them from the pole.

Savage says John Street is one area where this is an issue.

The Mayor also wants changes to signs that promote closed businesses.

She says there are a few of these around in the municipality.
