Blue-green algae has been found in the West Arm of Lake Nipissing. The Ministry of the Environment says it’s in the area of Northland Road. The area health unit says algae can move around and adds residents in the affected region should watch for algae blooms in their area. Blooms contain toxins which can cause liver and nervous system damage if ingested. Boiling the water doesn’t make the water any safer to drink and people need to use an alternate source for the next while.
