Voter turnout in Timiskaming-Cochrane below provincial average

Fifty-four percent of eligible voters in Timiskaming-Cochrane turned out in last Thursday’s election.

The figure is slightly below the provincial average of 58 percent which is a bit higher from previous elections.

The 2014 election saw a 52 percent turnout which was a two decade high prior to last week

In 2011, the turnout was 48 percent.

Across the north, turnout ranged from 48 to 57 percent which includes Nickel Belt where the showing hit the 57 percent mark.

However two northern ridings surpassed the provincial average.

In Parry Sound-Muskoka 62 percent of voters cast a ballot and Nipissing saw 60 percent of eligible voters pick a candidate.
