West Nipissing municipal debate brought a full house…

Fourteen of 16 council candidates sat before a full house in West Nipissing for the municipal debate. The topic of transparency got the most participation from candidates at last night’s meeting. All incumbents and hopefuls agreed that it already exists and will continue to.  Finally candidates debated on whether the municipality and tax payers were going to cover the costs of repairing Sacred Heart Church. Most agreed that tax payers should not be responsible for the repairs on the catholic church, but that they would do everything they can with the help of provincial and federal grants to save the historical landmark. Some of the other topics discussed included downtown road maintenance, the Trans Canada East pipeline, Minnehaha Bay, the area’s aging population, and how to engage youth. Election day is October 27th. It is a mail in vote only in West Nipissing, and voters kits should be arriving soon.
