West Nipissing council asked to help displaced Verner doctor

Verner’s only doctor, Dr. Klere Bourgault, says she was devastated to learn she might not be able to return to her original office for perhaps three more months.

Bourgault and several businesses and services that operated from the Verner Municipal Building were forced to evacuate the site on April 24th because it was declared unsafe.

Bourgault was able to set up a temporary shop at the Verner Pharmacy which she appreciates because it means she continues to serve the residents of Verner.

However she says the two rooms made available to her are very small and after learning she might not get back to her original quarters until later in the Summer, she’s asked the municipality to step in to help, something council is now endeavouring to do.

Bourgault told council in a letter that while one room serves as the reception for patients, the second room accommodates her and her patients.

As for where the patients wait before seeing Bourgault, she says it’s in the main area of the pharmacy where there is no privacy.

Because space is limited at the pharmacy Bourgault says she was not able to bring all her equipment from the municipal building with her.

Bourgault and the other Verner Municipal Building tenants were told the structure needs another assessment leading to the delay for a return to their original quarters.

Council will get an update on the building’s status at its next meeting June 12th.
