Breast screening challenge Wednesday at WNGH

The West Nipissing General Hospital is holding the annual Mammothon Breast Screening Challenge on Wednesday.

Breast screenings will be carried out from 8:00am to 7:30pm.

However, women need to book an appointment through the Ontario Breast Screening Program before showing up at the hospital.

The number to call is 1-800-661-8897.

The screenings are used to detect early signs of breast cancer even if a woman shows no signs or symptoms of the disease.

Women aged 50 to 74 who have never had a mammogram or are overdue for one, are eligible for the screenings.

Several hospitals in Northeastern Ontario are holding the mammothon breast challenge on Wednesday including sites in Sudbury, North Bay, Timiskaming and Kirkland Lake.
