The Green Party candidate for Timiskaming-Cochrane says a reason why we have expensive electricity is because we pay others to buy our surplus power.
Casey Lalonde says what we should be doing instead is to re-purpose the excess power into things like hydrogen-powered buses.
Lalonde says another way to bring down high hydro rates is don’t build anymore nuclear plants.
She says they cost billions to build and then billions more to refurbish.

Lalonde also says people need to be given incentives to consume less power.
On Thursday we will post comments from NDP candidate and riding incumbent John Vanthof over the NDP position on Hydro.
