Part of Bay Street to be re-surfaced

Bay Street in Sturgeon Falls is getting a makeover.

The re-surfacing is the result of contractor concerns about road conditions in the Bay and Leblanc area which is the site of commercial properties.

In total, 780 metres of Bay Street will be re-paved at a cost of about $140,000.

Of that total, about $115,000 covers the cost of the asphalt and the remainder pays for other material.

Meanwhile staff have told council it’s not known how long the re-surfaced job will last.

Staff say it could be 20 years, or as little as 10 years.

The reason for the uncertainty is because of Bay Street’s proximity to a swamp area.
