North Bay police officer urges use of Narcan to counter opioid overdose effect

A North Bay police officer has potential life-saving advice for drug users.

Detective Constable Brad Reaume says if you’re part of the drug culture that’s into opioids, make sure you have a Narcan or Naxolone nearby.

Both are reversing agents used on someone who has overdosed on on opioid like Fentanyl.

“We don’t know how often they’re used but we account for them by the success stories we hear on the streets,” Reaume said.

“And from what we hear, they’re highly successful at saving people’s lives.”

Reaume says the kits are available free at drug stores and from the AIDS committee in North Bay.

To get one a person needs to produce a health card.

Reaume strongly encourages people to get one of the kits especially if they intend to experiment with opioids.
