A vice president of Canadore College is the recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award handed out annually by Colleges and Institutes Canada.
This year’s recipient is Shawn Chorney who is vice president of enrolment management, Indigenous and student services.
Chorney has increased student enrolment at Canadore at a time when enrolment is dropping at other postsecondary schools.
He’s also championed projects to reduce poverty and dependency on social programs and has strengthened partnerships with First Nations through education and reconciliation.
College President George Burton says Chorney achieves results by building relationships and being entrepreneurial.
His peers see him as a progressive and creative thinker who takes calculated risks with positive results.
