Man dies in North Bay house fire

North Bay firefighters say a man they pulled from a burning home on Front Street has died.  Fire Chief Jason Whiteley says firefighters quickly found a man in the living room of the second floor home and got to work on him.   Whiteley says the man had no vital signs when he was pulled from the home and EMS applied resuscitation measures before transporting him to hospital.  However the 89-year-old man died of his injuries in hospital.

Investigators say an improperly mounted smoke alarm affected the alarm’s efficiency.   Whiteley says the Fire Marshall’s Office is looking into the cause and he’s pegged damage at $250,000.

Whiteley also says a passerby alerted a tenant on the first floor of the building about the fire when he saw smoke coming from the home around 9:00pm Wednesday.   It was right after the passerby acted that the fire department was called.
