NFN and province will continue to collaborate on sustainable Lake Nipissing fisheries

Ontario and Nipissing First Nation will continue a Memorandum of Understanding first (MOU) first agreed to and signed in March 2016.

The groups will continue to collaborate on the sustainable management of the Lake Nipissing fisheries and local walleye recovery.

With the focus improving the sustainable management of Lake Nipissing fisheries, the province and Nipissing First Nation have released an update detailing the successes of the Memorandum of Understanding, now in its second year.

From an MNRF release, the 2017-18 Memorandum of Understanding update highlights how Nipissing First Nation and Ontario continue to enhance compliance efforts, ensure continued collaboration and build on the successes achieved over the last year, which include:

  • Training of Nipissing First Nation enforcement officers and technical staff
  • Conducting joint lake patrols
  • Providing strong support for Nipissing First Nation’s Fisheries Law through joint communications materials
  • Working together to collect, analyze and share fisheries data
  • Conducting fisheries assessments and monitoring surveys

For a printed copy of the MOU-update contact Nipissing First Nation at 705-753-2050 or Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry North Bay District at 705-475-5550.
