Job postings in Nipissing were down in January compared to past years but up very slightly from the month before in December. The Labour Market Group says employers were looking for 332 people which is three more openings from December. However, compared to the three-year January average of 378, the latest January posting represents a 12 percent drop.
The employer with the highest number of postings was Zedd Customer Solutions which was looking to fill 26 vacancies in January. Next on the list was Central Welding and Iron Works which had 12 postings followed by 10 vacancies at Stock Transportation. Rounding out the Top 5 Employers posting for work were Metal Fab which had eight vacancies to fill and Homewood Suites by Hilton which was looking for seven people.
In terms of the nature of the job, the retail trade led the field with nearly 17 per cent of the jobs located in this sector. Second on the list is administrative and support, waste management and remediation services which occupies 16 per cent of industries out with postings. Rounding out the top five industries are health care and social assistance with 13 per cent of the job postings, almost 12 per cent of the hirings are taking place in manufacturing and in fifth spot is transportation and warehousing which has about 8 per cent of the postings.
