Near North chair rules out possibility of notice of reconsideration to revisit Widdifield Secondary School closure

There’s a rumour that some trustees with the Near North District School Board want to revisit the motion to close Widdifield Secondary School.   The talk is someone wants to introduce a notice of reconsideration at the next board meeting.   Board chairman Dave Thompson says he hasn’t heard the rumour but adds even if it’s true, there’s no way to consider such a move.   He says a notice of reconsideration can only be served on the night the original motion was passed or defeated and must be introduced by a person who supported the original motion.  In the Widdifield instance, the notice of reconsideration would have to have been served at the September meeting when trustees voted to close the high school.   However Thompson adds if trustees want to rescind or amend the original motion, that’s possible as long as it has two thirds support.  That means six out of nine trustees would have to vote in favour of amending or rescinding the original motion.  Widdifield is scheduled to close in June of next year with the high school students heading to either West Ferris or Chippewa.
