Computer scam dupes Verner man

A Verner man has learned the hard way about a computer scam using iTunes cards.

The man made a call to West Nipissing Police Saturday reporting that he and his daughter had been the victims of fraud.

A frozen laptop prompted the man to use a contact number that appeared on the screen. When he called, he was advised that he would be assisted after payment with iTunes cards was made.

The victim was assured that he would be reimbursed the full amount once the repairs were made. After the identification codes were provided, the man was not only not refunded the money, he lost a large sum in the process.

On top of the lost money, the man remains unsure if the computer remains compromised. Police warn the public to always use a reputable computer technician for service or repairs.
