More than 1,500 West Nipissing residents sign petition asking for referendum on OPP switchover

Nearly 14 percent of the voting population in West Nipissing signed a petition asking council to hold a referendum on the OPP switchover issue.  Just more than 15-hundred residents (1,519) signed the document in a month.  Former councillor Lise Senecal started the petition because she didn’t believe council had all the necessary information when it voted to accept an OPP offer December 5th.   Senecal says many questions like what the OPP budget will look like and the exact nature of the services officered remain unknown.  Senecal has formally given the petition to council which will be discussed at the first committee of the whole meeting in February.
