Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof wants to know when the government will improve conditions on Highway 11 North. An angry Vanthof went after the government on the heels of another fatal crash on the highway between two transports last Friday. Vanthof says there have been three fatal collisions virtually in the same spot in the last five years. He says Highway 11 is becoming known as a death trap. Vanthof says figures from road safety annual reports indicate Timiskaming residents using Highway 11 are four times more likely to die than other drivers. Transportation Minter Steven Del Duca says ministry personnel will examine the stretch of highway in question. Vanthof also questioned the current status of winter road maintenance but Del Duca says the province has increased winter maintenance with more equipment over the last three years.
