Poll finds support strong to keep municipal police

Oracle Research says only 26 percent of the people it surveyed prefer replacing the municipal police with the OPP.  In contrast, 51 percent want the municipal force to stay while the remainder are unsure.  Oracle also found that a majority of residents wanted to decide the issue with a referendum, an idea council rejected.  The poll says support for a new $8 million OPP building, which taxpayers will pay for, is low.  Oracle also says regardless of how they feel about the issue, most respondents don’t believe policing services will deteriorate under the police.
