Illegal work on Crown land results in $5,000 in fines against Haileybury man

It’s $5,000 in fines for a Haileybury man after he built a trail on public land without permission.  Last year the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry refused to sell Shane Hartzke Crown land adjacent to his property.  Despite this, Hartzke cut trees at the site, built some trails to a new campsite, dredged a shoreline and dumped sand near the shore.  When the MNRF learned what was happening, it stopped the work.  As part of the penalty, Hartzke has to rehabilitate the site.
