Hunters penalized total of $5,000 after trumpeter swan shot and killed

A judge has penalized two Englehart men a total of $5,000 after they shot and killed a trumpeter swan in Timiskaming Shores.  The men were hunting in a marsh area in New Liskeard in September when they shot at two swans thinking they were geese.  They hit and killed one of the birds while the other was injured but made a full recovery at the Toronto Wildlife Centre.   When they learned that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry was investigating the shooting, they admitted their responsibility.   The men were each fined $1,500 and must each make $1,000 donations to the wildlife centre and the Hilliardton Marsh Research and Education Centre in New Liskeard.
