OPP costing study released to public tonight

The next leg of whether West Nipissing switches to the OPP takes place this evening at the Marcel Noel Community Hall in Sturgeon Falls.  That’s where the OPP will explain what it would cost to replace the municipal police with their own.  Last week the OPP told council that annual cost would be $4.1 million plus a one-time start-up fee of about 600-thousand dollars.  Council also heard from staff that severance and pension top-up costs could be in the $2.5 million range.  Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30pm and after the OPP presentation, the public can ask their questions.  The meeting will also be broadcast by Eastlink and You-Tube.
