Public to hear OPP costing report on Wednesday

The Marcel Noel Community Hall could be packed Wednesday night.   That’s where the OPP will explain to West Nipissing residents what it would cost to replace the municipal force with the provincial police.  In a detailed presentation to council last week, the OPP said the current uniformed officers don’t automatically transfer over.  They need to first go through a background check and if nothing turns up, they’ll be offered a position with the OPP.  If West Nipissing joins the OPP, it would form part of a cluster with the branches in Warren, Noelville and Killarney with Sudbury as the head.  The OPP says West Nipissing would always have adequate coverage in the event officers have to respond to urgent events elsewhere in the cluster.
