For the second year in a row, the Nouvel-Ontario Francophone Catholic school board is among the top five energy efficient boards in Ontario. The board, which has elementary schools in St. Charles, Noelville and Warren, ranked 4th out of Ontario’s 72 boards with energy efficiency. Nouvel-Ontario has embarked on a continuous upgrading program since 1990 and says that work has helped reduce its carbon footprint.
One project underway is the installation of a ventilation control system at its elementary school in Val Caron. The board has budgeted $3-million over five years at various schools which will save up to $400,000 a year in energy costs.
