Both sides comment on Canadore College strike

As the college strike continues, Canadore president George Burton is worried about the students.   Burton says students have never lost a school year because of labour dispute and the colleges will ensure that doesn’t happen in 2017.   He says the college is working on a contingency plan to make sure the students don’t lose their year no matter how long the strike lasts.

Meanwhile the union rep for the faculty says it’s unfortunate the labour dispute spilled into the school year.   However John Patterson says don’t blame the union.   Patterson says the union negotiating team suggested 30 meeting dates over the summer but management rejected all of them.  As talks came down to the wire over the weekend, Patterson says the union even modified its proposals but to no avail because management said no to them.  The Canadore strike affects about 3,500 students and half a million province-wide.
