It’s not set in stone, but West Nipissing council may make a decision by December 5th whether to replace the municipal police with the OPP. Mayor Joanne Savage says nothing binds council to that date. West Nipissing is expecting the OPP to file a report around November 13th on what the force would charge the municipality to take over policing. Savage says once staff briefs council on the cost that would be followed by a community consultation on November 22nd. This is the second time council is considering replacing the municipal service with the provincial police.
