Family arrives back in Sturgeon Falls after facing Hurricane Maria

Sara Ouellette Subero and her two children are now back in Sturgeon Falls far away from their former tourist resort in Dominica.  The resort was completely destroyed when Hurricane Maria smashed into the Caribbean island last week killing at least 15 people and leaving countless homeless.  Subero told the Toronto Star that she and her family hunkered down in a wooden closet for four hours when the storm hit destroying almost everything in its path.  Afterward the guests at the resort headed to the capital but the Suberos stayed behind because they couldn’t walk 27 kilometres with their children.   The family waited several days for help to arrive which came in the form of two helicopters from Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.  Ouellette Subero’s husband Stephan stayed behind to see if he could salvage anything from the resort.
