New Democrat wants National Indigenous Day declared statutory holiday in Ontario

A Northern Ontario MPP is trying to turn National Indigenous Day into a statutory holiday in Ontario.  Mike Mantha, the New Democrat for Algoma Manitoulin, has introduced a Private Members Bill to that effect.  The Bill has the support of Warren “Smokey” Thomas, the president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.  Thomas is urging the Liberals and Conservatives to support the endeavour.   National Indigenous Day is celebrated on June 21st and currently only the Northwest Territories and Yukon recognize it as stat holiday.
