Vanthof weighs in Liberals using pension fund as asset to balance the budget

Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof says the Liberals are trying to make it look like the budget is balanced because we’re close to an election.  He says that’s why they’re using the Ontario Pension Fund as an asset to make it appear the budget is balanced.  However the Auditor General says they can’t do this and Vanthof agrees with the auditor.  Vanthof says it’s a trick the Liberals have already tried by selling Hydro One and using the proceeds towards the deficit.  He says anyone who has ever owned a business knows this is the wrong approach.  Vanthof says if you sell assets to balance your cheque book eventually you’ll run out of assets. Vanthof hopes the public doesn’t fall for this latest attempt by the Liberal to create the illusion that the budget is balanced.
