Special device could have saved skydiver’s life

The 27-year-old Sudbury man who died while parachuting has been identified as Ben Dupont.  Dupont fell to his death when his chute didn’t open on Saturday in a skydiving event in Gatineau just across from Ottawa.  However a friend of Dupont says had the victim’s chute been outfitted with an Automatic Activation Device, he would still be alive.  Gatineau police won’t confirm it, but the friend says Dupont was knocked out when he jumped from the plane and hit another skydiver.  Normally Dupont wears his deployment device but he was having it repaired at the time, otherwise his parachute would have opened when he lost consciousness.
