Fedeli says Auditor General claims Liberals under-state debt and deficit

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is reacting to a claim that the Ontario Liberals have under-stated the deficit and debt.  Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk says the provincial government has under-stated the deficit by $1.4 billion and the net debt by $12.4 billion.   Fedeli says the Liberals are using money from the pension fund to give the illusion that the public accounts are lower than they really are.   But he says the auditor has again told them they can’t do that because the funds are restricted.  Fedeli says Lysyk has told the Liberals they have no access to the pension fund money, they can’t spend it and therefore can’t count it as an asset.  Fedeli also points out that Public Sector Accounting Standards also state this money can’t be used the way the Liberals want.   Fedeli says the auditor is involved in an ongoing feud with the Liberals because she called them on this manoeuver when they first tried it last year.
