Sudbury construction company and supervisor hit with fines after workplace injury

It’s a $125,000 fine for R. M. Belanger of Sudbury and a $5,000 fine for one of its supervisors following a workplace injury in the city.  Last November a worker in a trench was trying to access underground pipes when one of the trench walls collapsed partially burying the employee and injuring his leg.  An investigation by the Ministry of Labour found that the wall gave way because the trench had not been properly sloped.  It also said the job site supervisor didn’t have proper protective devices, measures and procedures in place.  Both the company and supervisor pleaded guilty to offenses under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.   The incident took place at a worksite on Ramsay Lake Road in Sudbury.
