The West Nipissing Food Bank has collected at least $5,500 since the appeal for extra cash went out this week. The latest donation is $500 from the Lavigne Community Centre and the total could grow later tonight. The owners of the Lavigne Tavern, Guy and Judy Fortier, say they’ll match all donations made at a performance tonight at the tavern. And the crowd could be big. Runner-up Canadian Idol Jaydee Bixby is bringing his Classic Country Food Drive Tour to the tavern. In addition, the president of the local food bank, Claudette LeRoy, and several food bank volunteers are expected at the event.
