Police Chief urges residents to use department’s Vulnerable Person’s Registry program

The Chief of the West Nipissing police is using a recent missing person incident to remind residents about a valuable police tool.  It’s the Vulnerable Person’s Registry and involves caregivers giving police information about their loved ones before anything happens to them.  Seguin says the registry saves police a lot of time when they get a report about a missing person.  That’s because by already having a photo of the loved one and knowing what places they visit, the police don’t lose time having a photograph tracked down and can start looking at places the person in question would normally visit.  Caregivers update the registry of their loved ones annually and it can be accessed by going to the police department’s website at www.wnps.ca   In the recent missing person case, a 94-year-old wandered away from home.  Seguin says the story had a happy outcome because the person had gone out for a coffee and didn’t follow a regular routine.
