Northern Ontario Party questions Toronto project’s affect on north

The Northern Ontario Party wants the Premier to explain how creating parks and affordable housing by Toronto’s waterfront helps the north.  The NOP is asking the question after Kathleen Wynne said Ontario and Canada will benefit from the $1.25 billion project.  The federal government and City of Toronto are cost-sharing the work.  The NOP says the Toronto project doesn’t bring down the cost of hydro or natural gas and doubts it creates a single job for the north.  The party says it appears that in the Premier’s world if it doesn’t involve the GTA, then it doesn’t matter.   The NOP says if the Ontario Liberals want to help the north, they should build a transportation link to the Ring of Fire which can create jobs.   The NOP’s criticism doesn’t start and end with the Ontario Liberals.  The party also took shots at both Opposition parties.  While the NOP recognizes that Tory leader Patrick Brown is a contender to become Premier in next June’s election, it points out that Brown has had several problems with P.C. riding associations abandoning him in recent weeks.  As for the New Democrats, the NOP says that when the going gets tough, leader Andrea Horwath seems to only be interested in calling for public inquiries.
